WHY IT MATTERS THAT YOU LEND YOUR HELPING HAND
“Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone…
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts…
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ… Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn… No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.”
Colossians 4:5-6, 3:15-16; Galatians 6:2; Romans 12:15; 1 Corinthians 10:24
WHY IT MATTERS THAT YOU LEND YOUR HELPING HAND
Others come your way to help you.
And others come your way for you to help. You need to lend your helping hand.
It is God’s greatest desire for you to love and help one another with complete unabandon.
He implores you to believe Him when He promises … “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35
“Freely you have received; freely give.” Matthew 10:8
The enemy wants you focused only on yourself and your needs.
Do not allow this. God has you covered. Your needs have been and will continue to be met.
You go help others as you continue your journey.
YOUR TURN …
Right now there are people in your life who need your help…a kind word, encouragement, money, belongings, your time and attention.
Listen carefully and allow the Holy Spirit to direct you in the way you should go and then GO!
Lend your helping hand.
Come and pray …
“Your statutes are wonderful; therefore I obey them. The unfolding of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. I open my mouth and pant, longing for Your commands.
Turn to me and have mercy on me, as You always do to those who love Your Name. Direct my footsteps according to Your Word; let no sin rule over me. Redeem me from human oppression, that I may obey Your precepts.
Make Your face shine on Your servant and teach me Your decrees. Streams of tears flow from my eyes, for Your law is not obeyed.”
Psalm 119:129-136
“Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind…
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
Philippians 2:1-2; 1 Thessalonians 5:11
WHY NOT PRAY FOR CHANCES THIS WEEK TO LEND YOUR HELPING HAND?
HOW TO DO THIS AS A WEEKLY BIBLE STUDY
Day One: Experience Read the entire devotion. Do any verses stand out to you? If so, write it down and work on memorizing it over the week. I personally love the app “Scripture Typer.”
Day Two: Observe & Read Chain. Look up and chain verses (For example on how to chain verses, see this video).
Day Three: Interpret Read through the chain of verses starting with the first one. What do they say? Do you notice when it says “never” or “always” or “If, but, however, therefore, all…..”
Day Four: Application Do “Your turn” and make a list of people that God has put on your heart when you read this.
Day Five: Testify Who in your life, right now, can you share this with? There is somebody in your life that needs to hear this. Close your eyes. What name came to mind?
