BIBLE VERSES ABOUT LISTENING TO GOD
A few questions to ask yourself: Who are you listening to and are you listening to God?
Are you making decisions against your better judgment? Who is giving you that advice?
Are you strong and courageous or curled up in a ball? Why do you feel that way?
Are you calm and peaceful trusting that God is in charge and sees all? Or feeling puffed up and that only you know all the answers?
Are you fearful and scared? Who are you listening to that would cause you to feel that way?
For an adult (or even a teen) you may have a friend who has never before talked to you about their faith, suddenly twisting the words or actions of Jesus to get you to do what they want.
They know you're a believer so they think as long as they say "Jesus" you're going to do what they want.
We know traffickers who have used religion in the most demonic ways to manipulate kids.
For a teen, it might look like your close friends telling you not to listen to your parents or God forbid, to runaway.
Know the word of God by reading your bible. Don't cherry-pick verses, read the whole passage. Research the audience. Memorize scripture.
Listening to God and knowing His truth, that is what will guide you in this world. Does what someone is telling you line up with what God is telling you?
Someone who is already wise
will hear and learn still more;
someone who already understands
will gain the ability to counsel well;
Like a gold earring, like a fine gold necklace
is a wise reprover to a receptive ear.
Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God…
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger… He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
Proverbs 1:5, 25:12; John 8:47; James 1:19; Matthew 11:15
BIBLE VERSES ABOUT LISTENING TO GOD
Do you want to have a purposeful life?
Do you want to be the best you can be?
And, do you want to enjoy real loving relationships?
Do you want to experience peace in your life?
Also, do you want an abundant life?
Do you want to experience every day with no fear or worry?
Would you like to be successful?
Do you want to experience joy and know you brought joy into the lives of others?
And, do you want to know your life matters?
Do you want to live forever and enjoy riches beyond your imagination?
If you answer yes, then listen.
God is the only One who will provide each and every one of these.
YOUR TURN …
Review the questions above and sketch out in your mind how you believe each of these looks when realized.
Now know I am “…able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is a work within us…” Ephesians 3:20
COME AND PRAY …
“Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul… I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what He will say to me…”
Psalm 143:8; Habakkuk 2:1
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
Matthew 7:24
HOW TO DO THIS AS A WEEKLY BIBLE STUDY
Day One: Experience Read the entire devotion. Do any verses stand out to you? If so, write it down and work on memorizing it over the week. I personally love the app “Scripture Typer.”
Day Two: Observe & Read Chain. Look up and chain verses (For example on how to chain verses, see this video).
Day Three: Interpret Read through the chain of verses starting with the first one. What do they say? Do you notice when it says “never” or “always” or “If, but, however, therefore, all…..”
Day Four: Application Do “Your turn” and make a list of people that God has put on your heart when you read this.
Day Five: Testify Who in your life, right now, can you share this with? There is somebody in your life that needs to hear this. Close your eyes. What name came to mind?
